Several studies have found a link between dietary intake and fertility.

National Centre for Biotechnology Information has published an article that says, “Diets rich in unsaturated fats, whole grains, vegetables, and seafood have been linked to increased fertility in both men and women. While existing evidence on the role of dairy, alcohol, and caffeine is inconclusive, saturated fats and sugar have been linked to inferior fertility results in both men and women. A few factors, including as lifestyle, food, and exercise, all play a significant role in pregnancy. It is critical for couples to have a healthy lifestyle, which includes limiting alcohol use and not smoking at all.”

Dr. Richa, who is Clinical Director, Consultant Reproductive Medicine, Nova IVF Fertility, Mumbai,  has shared several dietary tips to increase the chances of  pregnancy. The tips including the following five:

Fruits and vegetables:

A nutritious diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as foods like beetroot and capsicum, can help enhance fertility.

Increase your protein intake:

Eat a high-protein diet that includes sprouting beans, soybeans, paneer, dal, beans, egg whites, fish, and poultry to enhance protein consumption. This well-balanced diet will enable the pair to obtain all of the necessary vitamins, antioxidants, and minerals naturally.

Avoid these foods:

Reduce your intake of fried, fatty, and high-cholesterol foods such as red meat and cheese, as well as oily meals, butter, and ghee. Reduce your intake of complex carbs such as maida and white sugar. Brown bread should be used instead of white bread, and brown rice should be used instead of white rice.

Consume modest meals:

Patients with endocrine abnormalities such as polycystic ovaries and hypothyroidism with infertility are advised to lose weight. Even a 5% weight drop can assist them in achieving ovulatory cycles. Instead of three substantial meals, these patients should eat five to six smaller meals.

Sugar management

Men should also monitor their blood sugar levels to ensure that they are within the usual range. Diabetes and excessive blood sugar levels will result in aberrant sperm parameters. High blood sugar levels can be managed with exercise, nutrition, and frequent medication, resulting in a better reproductive outcome.
